Vessel Support - EAS: Environmental Assessment Services

Environmental sampling and data collection in aquatic and riverine environments often require use of small vessels, experienced and certified boat captains, and a knowledgeable crew. Small businesses that own and manage their own fleet of vessels provide clients with the advantages of rapid mobilization and scheduling flexibility, which optimizes sample collection.

Environmental Assessment Services maintains a fleet of fully equipped research vessels that can be outfitted with specialized equipment and instrumentation to meet project needs. We offer a large pool of U.S. Coast Guard-licensed captains, experienced deck-hands, divers, scientists, and technicians who have more than 100 years combined experience in a range of inland and coastal water conditions. Our team offers an outstanding record for safely performing on-water support services.

EAS uses a variety of vessels outfitted with specialized equipment and instrumentation that enable us to perform the following support services:

Conduct sampling and surveying in offshore areas during daylight and nighttime
Deploy the liquid-tip Trident probe to map contaminated groundwater upwellings and collect water and sediment samples
Transport staff, including divers, to job sites along and within riverine environments
Provide short-notice call up/emergency response
Transport heavy equipment, such as river pumps
Transport samples from the field to laboratory for preparation and shipping
Conduct river tours for clients.

Certifications

Boat Operators: U.S. Coast Guard-Licensed Merchant Mariner for 25-ton and 50-ton vessels; Inland OUPV (6-PACK) licensed boat operators in U.S. bays, rivers, and sounds; Inland OUPV certificate for near coastal waters; 50-ton Inland masters license with towing certificate
Divers: Certified by National Association of Underwater Instructors (NAUI) or Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI)

Primary Vessels

EAS maintains four primary vessels in the Columbia River. We also have access to a large pool of additional vessels and watercraft. Our experienced boat operators and field sampling experts are experienced at working under all types of conditions and facing navigational challenges, including submerged land features and fluctuating river levels.
